And read stories in: The Rutland Herald, Vermont Public Radio and by the Associated Press. Beyond Nuclear's Paul Gunter (pictured left with Ben Chichester) was among the 1,500-1,800 estimated crowd at the April 14 rally on the Brattleboro, VT Commons. A vigil took place on April 15 outside the gates of the Entergy offices, owner of VT Yankee. Speakers at the April 14 rally included VT Governor, Pete Shumlin, VT Senator, Bernie Sanders and VT State Attorney General, William Sorrell. Sanders called out the lapdog Nuclear Regulatory Commission that issued a license extension for the aged reactor just 10 days into the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe. "They are not supposed to be an advocate for the expansion of nuclear power," he said of the agency. "They are not supposed to be an ally for the nuclear power industry." Yankee is the same GE Mark I Boiling Water Reactor design as the four reactors at Fukushima Daiichi. Shumlin exhorted: "Shut them down, go home, tell the truth" and warned Entergy, that Vermont was "not going to rest until your'e gone." Future actions are planned. Stay tuned!
