Multiple simultaneous scandals rock Canadian nuclear establishment

Safety concerns and tritium leaks at a 50-year old reactor at Chalk River,Ontario, and tritium discharges into the Ottawa River have sparked a chain reaction that has led to daily national media headlines, severe shortages of radiopharmaceuticals, and calls for the resignation of a federal cabinet minister. The largest nuclear power plant on the planet could go to the Great Lakes?!

That's exactly what's planned for the Bruce nuclear complex in Ontario, Canada, on the shoreline of Lake Huron. With six operable reactors, and two more under refurbishment, Bruce already has more nuclear power plants than any other in the Western Hemisphere. But four brand newreactors are now proposed, which wouuld make it thesingle biggest nuclear power plant on the planet. A Chernobyl waiting to happen in the heart of the Great Lakes?!

The six reactor Pickering nuclear power plant immediately east of Toronto on the Lake Ontario shore shares Chernobyl's fatal design flaw, and has a single, common containment and emergency core cooling system which means multiple, cascading, "domino effect" meltdowns are possible.
